BATTERED: New Songs Are Starting To Take Shape
November 12, 2006BATTERED, the new Norwegian band featuring former EINHERJER members Frode Glesnes (a.k.a. Grimar, vocals/guitar),Aksel Herløe (guitar) and Gerhard Storesund (a.k.a. Vivar, drums),has posted the following update on its official web site:
"We started out 2006 with a bang, with excellent album reviews, and fantastic live reviews including KKKK in Kerrang! and being referred to as 'one of Norway's very BEST live bands' in Scream magazine! Not to mention the chance to play at the Inferno festival in Oslo, and Close-Up festival in Stockholm, Rockfest in Haugesund (where we also were presented an award for our efforts) all in all putting us on the same bills as EMPEROR, OPETH, AMON AMARTH, JR EWING, SOILWORK, and SATYRICON, to name but a few! All of this in less than 6 months of being a ‘live' band!
"We have met many awesome people, received great feedback from fellow musicians and fans, driven back and forth across the country, we have annoyed the shit out of each other, and indeed enjoyed every moment of it! The only downside of it is… It leaves us craving more!!!
"We have had some trouble organizing gigs this fall, due to the work situation of some of us. However, do not mistake this somewhat dormant state for idleness or loss of inspiration! Oh no! We have brooded and schemed and twisted our heads to find ways to get this band back on stage, and finally it seems, the threads are churning again….
"While the bandmembers may have been spread out all over Norway for some time, all members have been busy writing material for our next album, pumping out riffs, lyrics and rhythms for a richer, fuller and more BATTERED experience in our sonic attack! Songs are already starting to take shape, and we will not stop until we all feel we have done our best, delivering an album worthy of the live energy we perform it with, whether we play for 20 or a 1000 people! (Drammen: you know this!)
"A new year beckons, and with it we will finally be able to take this band to the next level. We are all eager to cram in as many gigs as we can muster, for if anything, playing our songs for you guys is why we are a band in the first place!
"And YES, that means: Getting this crew overseas, to finally play for the rest of Europe, and hopefully beyond! Nothing has a tighter grip on our attention, and it would be a dream come true for all of us!
"So, stick around for more updates, and feel free to ask us about anything in the forums, or at MySpace. We will try to update as often as possible, and stay in touch with all of you guys and gals who keep cheering us on!
"So, long story short: to all who have supported us since we started and before: Thank you! We look forward to seeing as many as possible of you guys and many more in 2007! Ain't no fat lady singing just yet! ;)"
As previously reported, BATTERED's video for the song "Not One" has been posted online at this location (48 MB). The clip was shot in bluescreen with producer Rome Ramsies of Vision Valley and the CGI was done in Australia, according to a posting on the band's web site. The song comes off the group's self-titled debut album, which was released in March via Candlelight Records.
"Battered" was recorded at Sifa Lydstudio and was mixed at Top Room Studio with producer Børge Finstad.
BATTERED's current lineup is rounded out by bassist Ole Moldesæther and vocalist Sigurd Olaisen (HEADBLOCK).
Often cited as the leading "viking metal" act, Haugesund-based EINHERJER released several albums and EPs (1994's "Aurora Borealis" EP, 1995's "Leve Vikingånden", 1996's "Dragons of the North", 1997's "Far Far North" EP, 1998's "Odin Owns Ye All", 2000's "Norwegian Native Art" and 2003's "Blot") before folding in May of 2004.
